The importance of MIMO to 5G and 6G networks cannot be understated however they come with a massive cost penalty. Subbu’s career -- Starting on sensors and then smartdust Sensor Networks in Kris Pister’s lab at Cal, followed by a decade at FitBit where he rose to the rank of Director of Research, and then starting his own company Eko, is an inspiring journey for ALL ECE Graduate Students. Feedback Requested: Material and Process Compatibility Matrix

Dear BNC Faculty, As a gentle reminder, below is a notice from last week's weekly e-news referencing the newly developed material and process compatibly matrix. The BNC Engineering staff is soliciting suggestions and improvements on this matrix. Please email Ron Reger (rreger(a)purdue.edu<mailto:rreger@purdue.edu>) with any comments, suggestions or modifications. Here at the Birck Nanotechnology Center we have a wide range of fabrication projects happening daily within our state-of-the-art cleanroom, spanning many engineering and scientific disciplines from across campus and beyond. With this broad range of applications comes a diverse set of materials and processes, and occasionally certain materials used within our process tools can cause harmful levels of contamination due to particulates, outgassing, re-deposition, and chemical incompatibility. To that end we have developed a "Material and Process Compatibility" matrix showing 3 to 4 levels of allowed materials in our major systems in Lithography, Etch, Physical Vapor Deposition, and Growth/Deposition systems. These levels of allowed materials and/or substrate cleaning requirements are categorized under the areas of "Metallic Contamination," "Outgassing Contamination," "Elevated Temperature," "Backside Cleanliness," and "Special." We have carefully considered this matrix over the last several weeks, and we're now publishing it as an overlay of requirements to keep our systems clean and pristine for all users. As with any new procedure and process item we solicit your suggestions for improvements and modifications to this matrix. Additionally, if you wish to use something that is outside this matrix you must contact a staff member to discuss your process requirements before running your process. nanoHUB and Citrine Informatics free hands-on workshop on machine learning

Dear Colleagues, nanoHUB (https://nanohub.org) and Citrine Informatics (https://citrine.io) are happy to announce an upcoming hands-on workshop on machine learning tools for physical sciences and engineering. This free and open workshop will focus on deep learning methods for material science including convolutional neural networks and autoencoders. Title: Deep learning methods for material science Date/Time: 21st October 2020 / 1 PM – 2 PM EDT Registration is now open: https://nanohub.org/groups/ml/handsontraining This workshop is a part of nanoHUB's Hands-on Data Science and Machine Learning Training Series and is aimed at active researchers and educators, no prior coding experience is required. In addition, all exercises will use nanoHUB cloud computing resources, no need to download or install any software. All you need is an internet connection and a browser. After the training sessions, you will be able to continue using nanoHUB for your research or class. We will also allot some time for Q/A, aiming to provide one-on-one guidance to solve your specific problems. This includes an introduction to Jupyter notebooks, querying databases, and training basic machine learning models such as neural networks for classification and regression.
