LORRE PIs invest crucial lab funds buy hiring out a third-party calibration company. Lab users are advised NOT to move balances for any reason. Doing so instantly brings the instrument out of calibration and balance and could result in further damage to spring cells. In the case that you need to use a balance that has been moved, first check the bubble level to ensure it is level at it's new location. Next, perform a balance check using a set of our certified weights. NEVER touch the standard weights with bare hands, only gloved hands, and ideally, using forceps covered with rubber tips. Do not place balances near doors or windows, to minimize drafts. Ensure that you weigh the samples only after closing the chamber doors, when applicable. Lastly, keep the weighing chamber clean to prevent cross-contamination of samples and erroneous readings. Thank you.
