Dear All, Apologies for cross-posting Please find below an interesting opportunity to attend OpEd Writing Workshop on February 10. OpEd Project people who will be conducting the workshop are focused on inclusion of voices that are typically not heard. The Susan Bulkeley Butler Center for Leadership Excellence in partnership with the Center for Environment (C4E) and Purdue Policy Research Institute (PPRI), Discovery Park is pleased to offer an Op Ed writing workshop on Monday, February 10 (10 am – 5 pm). There is an internal application process because there are only limited number of seats available for this workshop. The deadline for applications is January 22, 2020. Interested participants are required to complete the short online application available through the Purdue Today announcement: https://www.purdue.edu/newsroom/purduetoday/releases/2020/Q1/op-ed-writing-w... Conducted by the OpEd Project, the highly-interactive, energetic workshop will explore the source of credibility and how to establish it; how to present ideas quickly and powerfully under pressure; the components of powerful, evidence-based argument; the difference between being “right” and being effective; and strategies for making a greater impact, including how to escape a pigeonhole, how to preach beyond the choir, and the value of seeing your argument as part of a bigger picture—and yourself as part of a larger public conversation. In addition, the workshop will be able to accompany participants in exercises designed to expand the way they think about their particular expertise and help them “translate” niche ideas (which they raised during the first day) into large themes, and to explore pitching. Participants leave the first day with a draft outline of an op-ed in hand. Participants will have ongoing access to OpEd Project resources, events and mentors. Thank you Mangala for sharing this.
