I am currently a doctoral candidate in the Department of Anthropology here at Purdue. This past spring I received the Bilsland Strategic Initiative Fellowship from the Graduate School for the development PANEL (the Purdue African Network for Environments and Livelihoods). I am writing to inquire about the potential interest of the faculty, staff, and graduate students who may be interested in the development of this network and its future activities. One of the primary goals is to create a forum for Purdue graduate students and faculty conducting research related to or have interests in conservation, development, poverty alleviation, management policy and the sustainability of wildlife and human livelihoods in Africa. It aims to establish a working group, PANEL (Purdue African Network for the Environment and Livelihoods) to forge and maintain connections between students and faculty among departments, across colleges, and between centers and institutes for policy and the environment already in place at Purdue. Developing a network with a specific geographical focus will allow researchers across Purdue to apply interdisciplinary, nuanced approaches to problem solving within the complex political, economical, environmental landscapes unique to African countries. Please forward this to any faculty and graduate students in your departments who may be interested in the participation and/or development of the activities related to this program. Thank you for your time, I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Carolyn Jost Robinson panel@purdue.edu Department of Anthropology
