Important EPICS Week 1 Announcements ________________________________ Required PDHs for First-Semester EPICS Students First time EPICS students are required to complete five PDHs that teach the basics of the design process. The first two should be done by the end of next week. 1. Intro to EPICS - Should be completed before your first lab. Watch the YouTube playlist<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc0ibrJx9X0nupwJAyql2G1nJySiF0k-3> and submit attendance in MyEPICS. 2. Wallet Exercise - There are two options to complete the wallet exercise. o You can attend any one of several in-person sessions hosted by the EPICS TAs. Find the schedule and register in MyEPICS<https://engineering.purdue.edu/MyEpics>. o If you cannot attend, you can do the make-up Gift Giving activity<https://engineering.purdue.edu/EPICS/purdue/individual-documents/professional-development>. ________________________________ EPICS Grading * The Individual Evaluation Rubric (IER)<https://engineering.purdue.edu/EPICS/purdue/team-documents/ier/edit> clearly spells out the requirements for each grade level. * It is advisable to review the IER early in the semester to understand grading in EPICS. * Unexcused absences from lab can have a significant effect on your grade. Be sure to clear any absences with your TA and advisor. ________________________________ Design Storm - $500 in Prizes and Earn EPICS PDHs! This competition, open to all Purdue students, will challenge teams of up to 5 students to create concepts and prototypes for cooking, pumping water, storing food and medicine, and providing communications in the wake of a major natural disaster. These concepts will be further developed throughout the semester by the new Natural Disaster Preparedness EPICS team. PDHs will be awarded to all participating EPICS students and prizes will be award to the best designs in several categories.
