Important EPICS Pre-Semester Announcements ________________________________ Welcome Students Welcome to the EPICS family new students, and welcome back to the returners. We are excited to see the impact you will make in the community through your work this semester. There are some changes for this semester, so please pay careful attention to the announcements below. ________________________________ Design Storm - $500 in Prizes and Earn EPICS PDHs! I strongly encourage you to put your design skills to work by taking part in Design Storm, a one-day design competition to help address urgent and unique needs on islands affected by the recent hurricanes. This competition, open to all Purdue students, will challenge teams of up to 5 students to create concepts and prototypes for cooking, pumping water, storing food and medicine, and providing communications in the wake of a major natural disaster. These concepts will be further developed throughout the semester by the new Natural Disaster Preparedness EPICS team. PDHs will be awarded to all participating EPICS students and prizes will be award to the best designs in several categories. Register at http://tinyurl.com/designstorm ________________________________ Professional Development Hours (PDHs) All students are required to complete a number of PDHs throughout the semester. The requirements are listed in the PDH Menu<https://sharepoint.ecn.purdue.edu/epics/teams/Public%20Documents/PDH%20Menu.pdf>. All first time students will need to watch the Introduction to EPICS<https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLc0ibrJx9X0nupwJAyql2G1nJySiF0k-3> playlist on YouTube before the first lab. Instructions for Logging Online Lecture Completion: 1) Watch all videos in the appropriate playlist. It is a good idea to subscribe to the EPICS Youtube channel. 2) Login to MyEPICS<https://engineering.purdue.edu/MyEpics/> using your Purdue career account. 3) Click View Activities, select 'All' in the 'Show' dropdown, and find activity with the naming matching the playlist. 4) Click 'Makeup', fill out the form, and click 'Submit' ________________________________ EPICS Website New students will want to become familiar with the EPICS website, where you will find the syllabus, lab and lecture schedule, assignments (milestones), and more.
