FW: Conference on Worldwide Access to Resources, Information, and Technology
SATURDAY 4/2 Pugwash Annual Conference!!! ACCESS: RESOURCES, INFORMATION, AND TECHNOLOGY FOR THE WORLD Interested in Wikipedia, international development, or engineering to improve people's lives? Purdue Student Pugwash is hosting its 6th annual conference on Saturday April 2. The conference will explore the ways in which science, technology, and engineering are being used to improve the standard of living throughout the world and how millions are gaining access to clean water, electricity, Internet, education and more. Experts from across the nation will discuss issues as varied as access to clean water (featuring a director of Engineers without Borders who has led projects bringing clean water to rural Nicaragua) to food security (featuring Dr. Gebisa Ejeta, winner of the 2009 World Food Prize for his work towards securing Africa's food supply) to overcoming information censorship in autocratic nations (featuring Reporters Without Borders). Our keynote speaker is Mr. Douglas Gardner, Deputy Director of the UN Bureau of Development, who will speak on the global standard of living and progress towards achieving the Millenium Development Goals. Our closing speaker is Mr. Zach Exley, the Chief Community Officer of the Wikimedia Foundation (Wikipedia), who will speak on Wikipedia and the future of access to information worldwide. And that's just a sampling of who will be at our conference (see the attached overview and agenda for more information). Attendees also receive a catered breakfast and lunch on Saturday, a t-shirt, and access to an additional Friday talk and conference social featuring board games and pizza. You can register through our website, or if you would prefer to pay with cash or check, simply come to any of our events or office hours in the next two weeks.
