Hello Everyone, In preparation for the upcoming Safety Recertification of our School with REM, the ChE Safety Committee inspected last week all laboratories and offices in FRNY and the rooms occupied by ChE personnel in POTR. I am glad to report that we noticed an overall improvement in the safety of our labs. Please find attached a document that summarizes the he most frequent safety issues identified during the safety inspections. The document also spells out the OSHA and Purdue required documentation, PPE requirements and a reminder of some safety rules and policies applicable to our School. Please pay close attention to the safety gloves policy under the PPE section. Health and well-being is also part of safety! A number of safety hazards were identified in some offices occupied by graduate students; please see the last two bullet points in the "Safety issues found and reminder of some safety rules and policies" section of the attached document to learn about the measures taken to eliminate these hazards. Each faculty or person responsible for a specific area will receive another email with the results of the safety inspection for that area; please address the problems identified. The Safety Committee will perform unannounced inspections in the first part of July, to check whether the safety issues identified were addressed. Thank you for your continuous commitment to safety! Sincerely, Gabriela on behalf of the ChE Safety Committee __________________ Gabriela Nagy, PhD Industrial Education Director ChE Safety Committee Chair School of Chemical Engineering Room FRNY G041D Purdue University Tel: (765)-496-1710 E-mail: nagyg@purdue.edu<mailto:nagyg@purdue.edu>
