[Cce-all-list] Senior Design Project

Colleagues, In CE 498 Senior Design Class this semester, we have an historically large class of 186 students. The size of our class matches the grand challenge of their assigned project as you can see in the attached syllabus. The project is being conducted in collaboration with Kiewit Engineering of Omaha, Nebraska on the rebuild of the Francis Scott Key Bridge (FSK) that tragically was taken down by a 116,000 ton cargo ship last March. Kiewit has the won the bid to design and build a new bridge. The project total cost is estimated at 2.1 Billion dollars. Also attached is a photo showing the first meeting of the class this morning. PGS Workshop “Engineering the Ground: from Fundamentals to Applications” and the 21st G.A. Leonards Lecture by Prof. Giulia MB Viggiani, April 11, 2025 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ On behalf of the organizing committee, I am pleased to announce that the 2025 Purdue Geotechnical Society Workshop and the 21st G.A. Leonards Lecture, an in-person event, will take place on Friday, April 11th, on the West Lafayette campus of Purdue University. The theme for the workshop is “Engineering the Ground: from fundamentals to applications”. It aligns with the subject of the Leonards Lecture, “Engineering Frozen Ground: understanding the behavior of soil on freezing and thawing”, which will be given by Professor Giulia MB Viggiani of Cambridge University. She has been recognized as a leader in geotechnical engineering research, education and practice, and we are thrilled that Professor Viggiani has accepted our invitation to give the Leonards Lecture. The workshop will consist of a full day of technical presentations and discussions including Keynote Lectures. The technical program will culminate with the Leonards Lecture and will be followed by a reception and dinner. Attached are the Call for Presentations with more detailed information and the Abstract Submission Form (no proceedings papers will be required). Please respond to this call by February 10, 2025.
