Chad Jafvert's retirement message

All: As many of you may know, Chad Jafvert will be retiring from Purdue at the end of this semester. Chad joined the faculty of Civil Engineering in 1991 (33 years ago) after having spent five years as a senior research environmental engineer at the U.S. EPA Laboratory in Athens, GA (after 1 year as a National Research Council Post-doc at the same lab). Since 2013, he has had a joint appointment with the Environmental and Ecological Engineering program at Purdue, and since 2018, has held a Lyles Family Professorship. He has mentored 21 Ph.D. students to completion, and has 3 more that will finish within the next year. Many of his former students hold faculty positions at universities in the U.S. and elsewhere. He plans on teaching a Maymester course in 2025 and will be taking students to Peru to evaluate water and sanitation systems in indigenous communities in the Amazon rain forest. Please congratulate Chad on his wonderful career and wish him the best in his future endeavors! We will likely do some sort of an evet for him in the spring semester. GS

All: It is with mixed feelings that I bring this message to you. Sue Khalifah has accepted the position of Assistant Vice Provost for Faculty Affairs where she will be leading organizational initiatives promoting faculty hiring, career development, retention and more. Her last day with us in her current position in CCE will be Oct. 18, 2024. Sue has been with us for just over 8 years as Student Experience Director. She has focused on recruitment and outreach for the School, and has connected with prospective students and families as well as FYE's, and worked with our Student Ambassadors, students, staff and faculty in meaningful ways to excite and promote civil and construction engineering. She expresses her sincere appreciation for the support and contribution from students, faculty and staff in all the initiatives she has created over the years. She will be continuing with her current teaching responsibilities in CCE through the send of this semester, and will continue to be engaged with us through the Provost's office.
