If you are unfamiliar with the federal agencies’ contacting process, including the processes within the Department of Defense, DHS, the National Security Agency, or the branches of the military, these training sessions will be an excellent opportunity to gain knowledge on how to increase your success rate on federal grants. On Thursday, August 20, 2009, Chuck Day, Jerry Lucas, and Mike Santens of Charles F. Day & Associates LLC (www.cfday.net) will present training in the Potter Engineering Building, Room 234on the federal budgeting process, with an emphasis on Department of Defense grant funding. The training workshop will consist of two sessions (morning and afternoon). A description of the two sessions follows. v MORNING SESSION 8:00-10:30 a.m. FU ROOM, POTTER HALL 234 “STRATEGIC NAVIGATION OF THE FEDERAL BUDGET PROCESS” Instructors: Chuck Day, Mike Santens, and Jerry Lucas The morning training session will examine the federal budget process with a special focus on the Department of Defense (DoD), along with an explanation of some common financial terms used by the Federal Government. This session is intended to provide a strategic understanding of the players, roles, structure, timeline, and rules of federal budgeting, appropriations, and financial management. Participants will gain insights to help navigate the fiscal environment of the federal government and achieve successful outcomes for their research and projects. v AFTERNOON SESSION 2:00-4:30 p.m. FU ROOM, POTTER HALL 234 “MAKE THE FEDERAL CONTRACTING PROCESS WORK FOR YOU” Instructors: Chuck Day, Mike Santens, and Jerry Lucas The afternoon training session will look at the federal contracting process along with an explanation of some common contract types (FFP, FPIF, T&M, CPFF, CPAF, etc) and methods (Grants, OTAs, CRADAs, etc.) used within the Federal Government. The training is intended to provide a strategic understanding of the players, roles, processes, and general rules of federal acquisition regulations. With this critical understanding, participants will gain the ability to navigate the federal contracting world to achieve successful outcomes for their research and projects. We will focus on topics such as Contract Methods and Types, Processes, Players, Competition, etc. In addition, the afternoon module will include the Defense Department (DoD) Acquisition Process, with an emphasis on both Milestone Review requirements and the Test & Evaluation requirements that support Milestone Reviews.
