MSE students: Yesterday there was a scam email that spoofed my name (used a random gmail address) and tried to get people to send gift cards to help me order stuff. Today the scammers appear to be pulling emails from the Purdue website and trying to send students and post-docs the same scam. If you get an email from something other than dfbahr@purdue.edu<mailto:dfbahr@purdue.edu>, it’s not me. Also, we will never ask students to purchase something to help us by sending us gift card numbers. This scam has been sent to the abuse@purdue.edu<mailto:abuse@purdue.edu> site to alert them, but as it’s evening and it seems to be picking up I wanted to get you a note about this as soon as possible. Thank you, and hope the semester is going well. -- David Bahr Head and Professor School of Materials Engineering, Purdue University http://www.purdue.edu/mse dfbahr@purdue.edu<mailto:dfbahr@purdue.edu>
