Semiconductor Technologies Enabling the Trillion Transistor Era

Abstract: Exponential progress in Artificial Intelligence (AI) owes much to remarkable advancements in hardware and software technology. The hardware technology roadmap is guided by the PPACt metrics: low Power, high Performance, reduced Area, low Cost, and rapid time to market. To achieve continuous improvement in hardware requires seamless synergy between its logic, memory, power, packaging, and networking building blocks. Moreover, additional constraints arise from yield, reliability, and sustainability considerations. We will discuss,

§  Past, present, and future of logic technology, focusing on transistors and interconnects.

§  Innovative device architectures as promising candidates for next-generation transistor technology such as horizontal Gate-All-Around (hGAA) and Complementary FET (CFET)

§  Novel interconnect materials and integration schemes such as Backside Power Delivery Network (BSPDN)

§  Roadmap from billions to trillions transistor era

§  Expediting technology roadmap with greater collaboration between academia and industry
