Please message below from Mason Wilson regarding the security updates for off-campus machines and laptops.

 

For laptops and other off campus machines that have been on the VPN today, you can open software center from the start menu and go to updates to run them whenever you have a chance.

Subject: [Engr-all-list] EMERGENCY SECURITY UPDATES and Reboots for ALL Windows Systems

 

Due to a critical Microsoft Windows vulnerability identified as CVE-2024-38063, we are pushing emergency updates to all machines as soon as possible.  Starting around midnight tonight 8/16/24, the updates will automatically install and force a reboot.

 

What You Need to Do:

  1. Save Your Work: Please ensure that you save any ongoing work frequently to avoid any loss of data during the update process.
  2. For Mission Critical Machines: Machines that are in the middle of long running research jobs that cannot be interrupted, please submit your information to the following site to be excluded from the reboot:   https://engineering.purdue.edu/ECN/Resources/Tools/patchExclusion
  3. Report Issues: If you encounter any issues following the updates, please report them immediately to our IT support team.
