Dear MSE Colleagues,
Our school will be hosting Prof. Simon Rogers (University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign) for a special seminar on Monday, May 4th—the Monday of finals week.
Prof. Rogers is a leading researcher in rheology and soft materials, and he will be presenting his work on
“Recovery Rheology,” a paradigm-shifting perspective in fluid mechanics that has strong conceptual roots in traditional solid mechanics. His work focuses on understanding recoverable and unrecoverable deformation in complex fluids, particularly yield
stress fluids and other soft materials that challenge conventional rheological thinking.
The seminar will take place from 11:30 AM–12:30 PM in ARMS B061 (see attached flyer for details). Even if your work is more in solid mechanics than fluid mechanics, I think many of you will find this talk both interesting and broadly relevant—especially
if you enjoy thinking about how “weird materials” behave under load.
I hope many of you can attend.
Cheers,
Kendra
