We are beginning to receive an increasing number of shutdown requests April 11th-16th due to ongoing renovations and CFS repairs required in the Science buildings. Please find below a summary of the current shutdowns:
1. EL Building Closure – April 11th Confirmed
The EL building will be closed on Saturday, April 11th, due to necessary repairs on the domestic water system. CFS will perform maintenance starting at 5:30am until 4:00pm. The work is expected to be completed sooner, but this schedule covers the worst-case scenario. Unauthorized personnel will not be allowed entrance during this water shutdown. During this shutdown, there will be no domestic water available, affecting:
- Restrooms
- Drinking fountains
- Eye wash stations
- Emergency showers
- Steam systems (including building heat and autoclaves)
2. SL Building Chilled Water Shutdown- April 11 -Confirmed- This will affect the ET building also.
Chilled water shutdown from 6:00am-4:30pm will affect the SL/ET buildings HVAC cooling system and lasers.
3. SL 3rd Floor East Side (only)- Hot Water Shutdown- April 11-Confirmed
Hot water shutdown from 6:00am to 4:30pm will only affect the SL 3rd floor east side temporary hot water shutdown affecting the heating system used for comfort in the HVAC system within our labs and offices. This shutdown does NOT affect the domestic hot water supply at the sinks. You will still have access to hot water for regular use at the sinks during this period.
4. EL Building Electrical Surge Protector Replacement -April 16th Confirmed
CFS plans to complete the electrical surge protector replacement on Thursday, April 16th, from 6:00 AM to 7:00 AM. The existing surge protectors are defective and fail to protect critical components in the panels from electrical spikes.
This work will largely impact all mechanical equipment within the penthouse machine room, including:
- Exhaust fan fume hoods
- SARC Air handler
- Building air handler
- Hot water heating pump
- Restroom and general exhaust fans (used to remove lab exhaust air via HVAC pipes)
- RO system
- Lab air compressor
- Exhaust fans for bio safety cabinets
- Heat recovery pump (associated with air handlers)
- Energy heat wheel (associated with air handlers)
- Penthouse machine room AC system
Please plan accordingly and contact me if have any questions or concerns.
Thanks
