Dear Colleagues,
The Bruce Helfert Memorial Award is open for nominations. The Bruce Helfert Memorial Award is given each year to
outstanding juniors in the College of Engineering or the College of Science to recognize that student’s academic excellence and demonstrated social concern. Two recipients will be selected for the Bruce Helfert Memorial Award this year. The $2,500.00
award has been made possible by a gift from Mrs. Sylvia Helfert and has been awarded for more than 40 years in memory of her son, Bruce, a 1964 graduate of Purdue’s School of Science.
The following are criteria for determining recipients of this scholarship:
The candidate must be pursuing studies in the College of Science or the College of Engineering.
The candidate must exhibit an understanding of science and technology and the effects of science/technology on humankind. They will be evaluated based on the following:
Potential for success in applying this knowledge in a chosen field
Ability to communicate an understanding of these disciplines to others
Dedication to sharing this understanding with others
Concrete evidence of social concern
The candidate must have achieved at least a classification of 5 or 6 (Junior) in progressing toward their degree and must have at least 2 semesters remaining to complete their degree.
The candidate must exhibit outstanding academic success with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher.
