All LORRE Students and Staff:

Dr. Ladisch and I have worked late several evenings this week and have found numerous labs unlocked and unoccupied when we did a walk-though before leaving for the night.

As one example, last night I found the following labs were unlocked but no one was present in any of them or in the offices: 233, 256, 333, 336, 359.

So, two important reminders:

1)      It is everyone’s responsibility to check on the doors before your leave for the day. Make sure everything is closed and locked before you leave.

2)      Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Working in the lab, alone, at night is not working safely. Everyone should be able to complete nearly all of their work during regular business hours (roughly 7:30am to 6:30pm). If you need to work later than that on occasion to take samples, check on experiments or HPLC samples, etc. please inform your colleagues that you will be doing so. It is best practices that your major professor (Drs. Ladisch, Ximenes, Mosier, Engelberth, or Kilaz) know your experimental plans as well, including when you have need to do work outside of regular working hours when others are around the lab.

Sincerely,
