To
All
Good
morning!
We have found a lot of the dirty glassware, waste bottles, and chemicals while
cleaning the
Lab#333 hood. We are not sure if these are dangerous chemicals,
waste
materials, or samples.
We
have
asked multiple LORRE members, but nobody can account for what
was found. This
makes it difficult to fill out a pickup form.
Purdue REM will be spent a lot of money to detect unknown
liquid
chemical in each bottle.
As
a
friendly reminder:
1)
The
Hood is not a storage space, please put chemicals away properly
after using
them, and arrange for the disposal of waste. Keep the work space
clean and
clear while not experimenting.
2)
Do not use the hood as a way to dispose of chemicals.
Do not allow
for volatile
compounds to dry in the hood, this is dangerous
to the health
of all people who use the lab space. Openly exposed chemicals, especially
volatile ones, have
the potential to pollute air and expose individuals outside and
inside the
building. This practice should not be used. Instead they should
be capped and
stored for REM pickup.
3)
Liquid
biological waste should be collected in containers for
autoclaving or chemical
disinfection before disposal.
Thank
you to
Evan E Scwinski, Raymond
Red Corn, Dan
Hoban, Justin Couetil, and Nwadilora
Amarachi Ezenwukwa
for keeping the
lab space safe and encouraging chemical safety throughout LORRE.
Thank
you,
LORRE
safety
committee.
