Subject: Fw: COMMUNICATION: Directional guidance for stairwells

All,

As indicated below by the University, all campus stairwells have returned to operating in both directions (up and down).

As of this afternoon, all of the "one way" directional signage has been removed.

Thanks,
Phil

RE: Directional guidance for stairwells

Stairwells in all campus buildings must remain open in both directions (up and down) at all times. This will help alleviate any confusion in the case of an emergency.

As part of new protocols that went into effect May 26, anyone entering a campus building must wear a face mask. The mask must be worn in all hallways, public spaces and common areas, as well as office spaces if social distancing of six feet is not possible.

Individuals in stairwells should wear their face masks and remain on the far right side in the direction of travel. Individuals should avoid stopping and socializing while in the stairwell.

If you are not already aware, a team comprised of representatives from a number of departments, including the Purdue University Fire Department, is working with Building Deputies to establish standard operating procedures for facilities and ensure appropriate signage is in place. The team is coordinating building walk throughs in a progressive manner and will be in touch soon if you have not heard from them yet.

If you have any questions about stairwell signage, please feel free to contact me at kmply@purdue.edu.
