To All:
LORRE's goal is to have zero safety incidents this
year. As
discussed in group meetings, LORRE will be adopting Safety
Standard Operating
Procedure (SSOP) in order to ensure that we are prepared in the
case an
accident does occur. This procedure will be posted on the LORRE
website for
your referral. Please be sure to review these procedure.
Thanks
Lab Safety Standard
Operation Procedure
(2/11/2015)
During
the LORRE Office meeting, it
was decided that it is necessary to have a safety standard
operating procedure
(SSOP) for managing mishaps in the lab. The Safety Committee
hopes that no
injuries occur, however, we also recognize that accidents
happen.
In Case
of Accident/Injury:
1) An
eyewash station is located in every
lab in case something gets into your eyes. If a chemical
enters your eyes,
quickly get to the eyewash station and rinse your eyes
thoroughly for15
minutes.
2) If a chemical
gets onto your skin or spills
on your clothes, remove clothing that is soiled with chemicals
first and then
utilize the shower
and wash shower flushing
times are 15 minutes. Thoroughly under the showers located
near the eyewash
stations.
3) If any of these steps
have been necessary, go to the LORRE main office to see Carla
and fill out a
Form. Students
that are injured need to
complete form RM 30
Report of
Personal Injury for Students or Visitors. The
First Report of Injury Form FROI form for Employees
and visiting scholars. All
injuries regardless of how slight must be reported REM. RM30
report to Rick
Management Office.
4) Sometimes injuries
may be too severe to be contained with these simple steps. Students
that
are working for credit are not covered as employees and should
go to
Purdue University Student Health (PUSH)
for injuries. Students must make sure they have their Purdue
ID. Employees (including
student employees) and visiting scholars may use Regional
Occupational Care
Center (ROCC).
Call 911 in case of
immediate emergency.
