At LORRE, How Do I …?
This is a new series in the newsletter to help everyone access the resources they need to be successful. Each week will highlight a different “How do I” question. If you have suggestions
for “How do I” questions, please send them to Nate Mosier (mosiern@purdue.edu).
At LORRE, how do I get supplies need to do my research? Each of you are working on a research project that has funding to support
your efforts and the efforts of others on the project. This funding can be used (within limits) to purchase the supplies you need. How do you go about purchasing these supplies?
All purchases begin with the completion of a purchase requisition form. Please ask Carla or Keven in the LORRE office for one on paper or request an electronic copy. The electronic form
is an MS Excel spreadsheet that can be filled in and printed out for signatures. You will need several pieces of information:
a)
Your name and contact information (phone # and email)
b)
The name of the vendor
c)
The account number of the project
d)
An itemized list of the supplies you wish to purchase with estimated prices
e)
Your signature!
f)
The signature of your advisor!
No purchases can be made without your signature and the approval (signature) of your advisor.
Once you have the form completed, please give it to Carla in the LORRE office. She will enter the information into the Purdue purchasing system. After your items arrive by mail, she will let you know that you can pick them up from the main office.
It is important that you give Carla the packing slip from the package! This is the proof of receipt by Purdue to allow the bill to be paid.
Many common research supplies (pipette tips, centrifuge tubes, sample bottles and bags, etc.) are in abundant supply in LORRE. We try to keep these in stock to prevent the work from being
slowed by waiting for supplies to arrive. However, these supplies are not free! Each project should purchase these common stock items as they are being used. Please discuss how much of these supplies, as well as specialty items, you will be
needing with your advisor so these purchases can be made in a timely manner.
