LORRE
Safety Issue
January 2015
01/26/2015
To
All:
Welcome
back
for the spring semester! As before, please continue to read this
monthly Safety
Issue. This year, our safety program will emphasize: 1) Safety
retraining for
all lab members 2) A goal of zero injuries.
We
also want
to make sure everyone is familiar with the hazardous and
biological waste
regulation and disposal policies. As a reminder, 1, 2-
Dichloroethane can NOT
be mixed into the mineral acid waste containers. Our lab uses
both, so it is
important to make sure all waste containers have labeling that
accurately
reflects their contents. Also, solidified agarose gel wastes
need to be
collected in an appropriate bio hazard waste autoclave bag and
autoclaved before
disposal.
We
are in
the process of drafting a Lab Safety Standard Operating
Procedure, we will send
it in next month’s issue after it is completed.
Thanks,
The
LORRE
Safety Committee
