To
all;
Building and
Laboratory Safety
Inspection
Last
month
(September), LORRE was inspected by REM for Building and
Laboratory Safety; REM
alerted LORRE with 11 points that had to be addressed and
corrected for the
safety inspection. We would like to thank Mahdie Aghazadeh, Dr.
Ximin Zhang,
Raymond Red Corn, Neal Hengge, and Emma Brace for their
immediate help with the
LORRE safety community to correct these safety violations in our
work area.
Below are the summarized safety violations – please take note so
that we can
ensure a safe working environment:
· Have to post the
Certification of
Hazard Assessment on doors
· Must post Emergency
telephone numbers
(24 hours) outside lab doors
· Inadequately labeled
containers
· Dispose of used gloves
with other
laboratory waste
· Unsafe operations
inside a fume hood:
sashes must not be opened beyond the recommended height or width
and must not
be obstructed from closing completely
· Fire doors shall not
be blocked,
obstructed, propped open, or otherwise made inoperable
Placard Prototype
Professor
Engelberth,Abigail
has given a great safety solution by providing us with some
prototypes for a placard. When you need to leave your
experiment, these
placards can be labeled with important information to keep our
work area safe.
Thanks
