LORRE Lab Users-
Once again, I’ve made a few changes for clarification of the Laboratory Worker Safety Training Checklist. I’ve indicated that Sharps and Haz Waste training are now required and not listed as optional. Training in Autoclave Operation and a separate signature
line authorizing publication of your identify on LORRE’s public website has been added. Location of training exercises have been listed. Thank you for your patience for this work in progress.
Self-audits have been submitted to REM. I do not have an expected date for REM’s on-site POTR audit. They reserve the right to inspect without notice.
I’m currently disposing 90% of the chemicals in 254 after Mosier’s approval. Please look through 3 upper cabinets and the two carts and find me if you wish to keep any chemical. Please do not move anything without consulting me first. I anticipate that REM
will pick up Tuesday or later.
Chemical inventory is in the process of being extensively updated. The hopeful deadline for completion is next Friday, prior to inspection. If you have any chemicals improperly stored (read: hidden) in a drawer or elsewhere, please let me know so I can correct
this and write it into the inventory. Refrigerators and freezers as well as under-the-sink household chemicals must be included in our comprehensive inventory.
Having a completed inventory will allow me the efficient resources to create a current SDS log. I am in the process of accessing and creating such on a shared network space. I will update when ready. This means that anyone ordering fresh chemicals will be responsible
for locating an electronic SDS and moving it to the shared folder.
CHP/BEP binders are being returned to the lab space today.
Next Seminar is June 27, 930am POTR234. Brent will be presenting. If no one else volunteers for Jul 11, I will present topics on Hazardous Waste Management and Disposal. Jul 25 is still available.
Gas cylinder safety straps are on backorder from Cole Parmer and expected mid-July.
The Lab Checkout process seems to be going well. Lab users are surprised at unknown samples and other chemicals and supplies being stored. Checkout can take a few hours to two days, accounting for inventory, cleanout, dishwashing, notebook witnessing, data
storage, etc. Please keep this in mind as you continue to generate such items and as your LORRE departure nears.
Lastly, Eyewash Stations should be FLUSHED WEEKLY!
Thank you for your attention.
