LORRE October Safety Issue: UPDATE

10/28/13

To All:

1.     Biological Safety:

·        Lab #335 should only be used for Biochips pathogen experiments. We will be posting the list of people authorized to work in this lab on the door (see below). This room is very small, so if any other students, staff, or visiting scholars want to work in 335, please get permission from the Director, Professor Ladisch or Dr. Ximenes (in charge of Biochips).

·        All bottles, flasks, beakers, and computer equipment in lab 335 should not be removed. Any items coming into contact with hazardous materials in 335 should be autoclaved immediately.

·        Be sure to wear a lab coat, glasses, and gloves when working in lab 335. Wear a surgical mask if necessary.

2.     Food Safety:

·        We have moved the food microwave out of lab #252/233. Now, only lab #336 has a food storage refrigerator and microwave. Please refrain from eating in the lab, the best location to eat would be the first floor of Potter.

3.     Potter HVAC Project:

·        The Potter center Variable Air Volume Box Replacement has started. The LORRE labs that will be affected are: #236, 237, 237A, 235, 235A, 233, 231, 256, 254, 252. The earliest work will start in January 2014. Today Professor Abby and community members met with Ellis Mechanical, Phil Qualio, and some company representatives to review and plan. Some computers, desks, and furniture may need to be covered. In addition, we may need to move some refrigerators and chemicals and glassware will need to be put away. More details will come later.
