I2D-list I2D Lab Expo March 29 and 30th
Dear Colleagues, The Innovation for International Development (I2D) Lab<https://engineering.purdue.edu/GEP/I2DLab> at Purdue was founded to convene and catalyze consortia matching world-class capability with the most pressing global challenges. This year, we have an impressive array of visitors and keynote speakers for the Annual I2D Exposition this month (flyer attached) including keynote presentations from: ? Maurizio Vecchione, Executive Vice President of Global Good by Intellectual Ventures, an R&D arm for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. In this role, he oversees Global Good, IV's collaboration with Bill Gates to invent and deploy technology specifically focused on improving life in developing countries, as well as the research and operations of the IV Laboratory and Institute for Disease Modeling." ? Shirley Pazos, Regional Coordinator of Agriculture and ICT projects, Practical Action Latin America. Currently she coordinates agriculture and ICT projects for Practical Action. Her current and past experience includes being a founding member and volunteer of the international network of volunteering "Mujeres en Acción" and Regional Coordinator of the Rural Telecommunications Research Center of the University of Cusco. ? Julie Barrett O'Brien, President and Founder of Barrett Global Strategies. She has a proven record building market linkages that connect sustainable development to business strategy, and has partnered with an impressive roster of clients including GE Healthcare, John Deere, Starbucks, Knack, Chemonics, Rainforest Alliance, and Last Mile Health. I write to invite you and your students to the following three events: 1. The I2D Lab Expo will start 3.00-8.00 PM in the ARMS atrium on March 29th, Thursday with a poster session and reception featuring nearly 30 faculty and student innovations for global sustainable development - this covers includes appropriate technology solutions for water/sanitation, saving labor, energy access, food security, emergency response, global health, and education. This year, we are dedicating our poster session to the late Calestous Juma. A tribute will be made in his honor beginning at 7:00 pm the night of the poster session. 2. March 30th, Friday 9.30-11.30 AM Advisory session in Armstrong Hall where current I2D Lab grantees/supported projects will be presented along with interactive sessions featuring distinguished guests from partner organizations : Professors Jackie Linnes (BME), Jennifer DeBoer (ENE), Yuehwern Yih (IE), Chad Jafvert (CE and EEE)), John Lumkes (ABE), and Joe Sinfield (CE). Invited guests Greta Wetzel (Save the Children), Robert Groelsema (Catholic Relief Services), and Anne Dare (AAAS Fellow) will also be presenting. 3. March 30, Friday 1.00- 5.00 PM Keynote session in ARMS B-071. The invited keynote talks focusing on engineering innovation opportunities for global sustainable development. A chance to network with visiting guests will occur from 4.00-5.00 PM. Please feel free to forward to your students who may be interested to attend.
