[Ewb-list] Adventure Capital: Playing Games with the Third World
This is a talk about how to fund ventures that fill needs in 3rd world countries. This professor has a reputation for being an excellent speaker, and he has plenty of experience with the subject matter. Unfortunately, this is a 21+ event as it is in a bar and beer is served. It's called "Science on Tap". When: Thursday, September 22 at 6:00pm Where: Lafayette Brewing Company (Upstairs) Who: Dr. J. Paul Robinson Professor of Immunopharmacology Professor of Biomedical Engineering Director, Purdue University Cytometry Laboratories What: "With a desperate need to solve serious problems in resource limited countries, scientists have started hundreds of biotech startups using the 3rd world need as their primary publicity to raise capital. Since about 85% of these startups crash and burn, this opens up an interesting moral dilemma: Fund them or not. If you don't fund them solutions may not appear. If you do, the great majority will consume the money and produce nothing. I will discuss this dilemma and try to identify solutions. Hope to see you there! Brad
