A new
initiative that aims to help improve access to safe and sustainable water
supply for communities where it is presently at risk.
Projects
must advance access to safe and sustainable water supply where it is presently
at risk and demonstrate that they:
- Are replicable, scalable and sustainable, setting a
high benchmark for innovation
- Emphasize solutions with practical applicability
- Address non-discrimination/equality of access from a
scientific, legal or other basis
- Involve and impact a range of stakeholders
- Have local/community-level engagement
These are the criteria against which projects will be assessed. Early
stage projects are preferred.
The online submission form must be completed by 1 November 2010 (12
am GMT) and must include the following elements:
- An executive summary
- Organization/applicant description
- Project description outlining project goals, purpose
and outcomes
- Project plan and background and long-term
sustainability
- Disclosure of any competing interests
- Partner/third party testimonial

As someone interested in innovative solutions to the
environmental challenges the world faces, we would like to make you aware of
the Reed Elsevier Environmental Challenge, a new initiative that aims to help
improve access to safe and sustainable water supply for communities where it
is presently at risk. The winning
project will receive a prize of $50,000 and be highlighted in
Water
Research, with a
second place prize of $25,000. Applicants will have
access to relevant Reed Elsevier products through the submission deadline,
which is 1 November
2010 (12am GMT). We are seeking innovative ideas for projects that:
The Reed Elsevier Environmental Challenge will contribute to
the Water for Life Decade, established by the UN General Assembly, running
