Dear Colleagues, I am absolutely delighted to inform that the White House has announced today that Dr. Rakesh Agrawal is one of five U.S. inventors selected as recipients of the National Medal of Technology and Innovation. This is the highest recognition the nation confers on inventors and is an extremely rare honor. The recipients will receive their awards at a White House ceremony later this year. In announcing the recipients of the National Medal of Science and National Medal of Technology and Innovation, President Obama noted that "Each of these extraordinary scientists, engineers, and inventors is guided by a passion for innovation, a fearlessness even as they explore the very frontiers of human knowledge, and a desire to make the world a better place. Their ingenuity inspires us all to reach higher and try harder, no matter how difficult the challenges we face." With his extraordinary creativity and productivity, Dr. Agrawal has had tremendous impact by enhancing many technologies that serve society and improve the lives of others. He continues his past impressive record with outstanding current research in solar energy, biofuels and energy-efficient separation methods. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Agrawal for this most well-deserved recognition! Best, Arvind Arvind Varma R.
