Robert Jr. Consultant & Professor Emeritus Purdue Military Research Institute, Purdue University & United States Military Academy Bio: Dr. Leon Robert is a recognized expert in leadership development, procedural discipline and process improvement in the oil and gas sector. He has worked extensively in the Permian Basin to improve hydraulic fracking business processes, reducing human error, and mentoring the next generation of oil and gas leaders. He had a distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Army and is a nationally recognized scientist and educator. He has diverse leadership experience leading complex academic, operational, and scientific research and development organizations, with responsibility for setting organization vision/goals, leading change, and achieving results. His executive leadership of academic organizations, and research and development teams included senior-level engagement with multiple Department of Defense stakeholders, and with a wide variety of top-tier universities, private research labs and commercial companies. He assisted the DoD in developing the next generation "green" pyrotechnics and improved high explosive formulations. His distinguished military career included two combat tours, 8 overseas assignments, and culminated as Professor of Life Science and Head of the Department of Chemistry and Life Science at the United States Military Academy at West Point, 2011-2017. He led the 51-person academic department responsible for educating and developing future Army leaders (cadets) in the fields of Chemistry, Life Science, and Chemical Engineering. Under his leadership the Department successfully gained American Chemical Society certification of the Chemistry Program in 2013, American Board of Engineering Technology accreditation of the Chemical Engineering Program in 2015 and completed the $150M renovation and expansion of the Bartlett Hall Science Center. Leon's distinguished achievements include serving as the Vice Dean of the National Military Academy of Afghanistan in Kabul where he led, developed, and mentored 200 Afghan faculty and staff to educate 1,500 cadets in a four-year undergraduate college program, under extraordinarily challenging conditions. He professionally mentored the Dean, Director of Admissions and 12 academic department heads to improve education and administrative procedures resulting in the first ever graduating class of future Afghan Army officers. He has authored over 40 multidisciplinary peer-reviewed publications, numerous technical publications and was awarded a US patent. Thursday, October 13, 2022 3:00 p.m. - 4:15 p.m. FRNY 3059 Abstract: Dr. Leon Robert served 30+ years in the U.S. Army and visited 62 countries while serving in field units, academic assignments, overseas tours and combat deployments. His leadership in science and chemical engineering culminated in serving as Professor and Head, Department of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Life Science at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Since retiring, he has continued to serve as Consultant, Purdue Military Research Institute and bring his expertise to the Steel making and oil and gas sectors.
