Use of outside gas cylinder storage area - new policy
Good morning, everyone, In an effort to ensure that the outside gas cylinder storage area is used safely and there is always space for new gas cylinders ordered by our research groups, the ChE Safety Committee is implementing the following two new rules: 1. Gas cylinders are not to be stored in the outside storage area for more than 3 months. Starting Monday, March 18, 2019, Jason Davenport will send an individual email to every person who is responsible for gas cylinders stored in the outside storage area for 3 months or more. The person will be asked to remove the cylinder from the storage area within one week. If the cylinder is not removed within one week, Jason will move that cylinder to the "Return" cage. This policy will ensure that newly delivered gas cylinders can be placed in their corresponding cage in a timely manner, and the gas cylinders are used in the order they are received. 2. When retrieving/adding a gas cylinder from/to any of the cages in the outside storage area, 4 (four) safety cones have to be used to warn pedestrians/users of the walk/bike path of the potential impact hazard. The cones are to be placed in the middle of each lane of the path, so that walking/biking is restricted and users are warned to bypass the area immediately in front of the storage area while the cones are displayed. Please make sure you place ALL 4 safety cones back in the storage area when you finished. This policy is in effect starting today. Should you have any questions, please let me know. Thank you for your commitment to safety!
