The purpose is to inspire STEM teachers and students in energy sciences and engineering. This is an immersive one week program and will consist of: (1) talks by Purdue researchers and industry leaders, (2) tours, (3) hands-on activities, (4) research projects, and (5) teachers developing energy lessons. This year program will be inaugurated by former Chairman Jim Rogers, Duke Energy. We will have approximately 84 exceptionally talented high school (10/11th grades) students and secondary teachers. The Energy Academy presents an excellent opportunity to faculty for their broader impact activities. Please let us know if you would like to participate in this activity. Specifically, we are looking for faculty who have hands on activities/projects, or would like to give talk or mentor teachers/students for group projects. Also, we are interested having Purdue students (UG/Graduate) be counselors and volunteers. Counseling/volunteering in this program is stimulating, challenging and rewarding, and provides a unique opportunity to gain experience learning about energy, interacting with the high school students as well as teachers. The live-in setting (Counselors only) also provides a rich environment for developing interpersonal skills, leadership skills, and exploring self-growth. The counselor opportunity is a paid position.
