All are encouraged to attend both seminars, and as a reminder BME69000 students may receive attendance credit for both seminars.*** BME Seminar Series Wednesday, September 26, 2012 Burton Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121 4:00-5:00PM Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering and the School of Industrial Engineering Purdue University Logistics Issues in Public Health Delivery Paul Griffin, PhD Professor, Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering Pennsylvania State University Abstract: An important component for the effective delivery of public health services that is often overlooked is the logistics to support the program. Typical logistics decisions include inventory positioning, location determination, capacitated resource allocation, and contracting mechanisms. In this talk, we discuss three examples where logistics plays a key role: location and service selection for federally qualified community health centers, farm to school programs for childhood obesity, and school-based oral health service delivery. In each case we discuss the important issues, the decision support models, and the resulting impact. Bio: Paul Griffin is a professor in the Harold and Inge Marcus Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Engineering where he serves as the Peter and Angela Dal Pezzo Department Head. His research and teaching interests are in health and supply chain systems. In particular, his current research activities have focused on cost-effectiveness modeling of public health interventions, health logistics, health access and economic modeling, and supply chain coordination and control including pricing and contracting mechanisms.
