Subject: [doe-heads-list] FW: Campus Safety and Security Memo

CoE Heads, Directors and Cabinet Members:

Please share the attached Campus Safety and  Security memo from Timothy Sands, EVPAA and Provost with your faculty and staff.   Also, please ask your faculty to include important Emergency Planning information in their course syllabus material for the Fall semester.  It should indicate that a campus emergency could result in some unplanned changes in courses taught in your school.

The following resources are intended to help instructors prepare for their classes:

·         ITaP Preparing for a Campus Emergency -  http://www.itap.purdue.edu/tlt/faculty/

·         CoE Safety – https://engineering.purdue.edu/Intranet/Groups/Administration/RPM/Safety

Classroom Emergency Exit Plans for CoE classrooms (2 page documents):

ABE   ARMS   CIVL   EE   FRNY   GRIS   ME   MJIS   MSEE  POTR

The above plans may not be available for non-CoE classrooms.  For information related to non-CoE classrooms please refer to the room evacuation plans posted in the classroom or contact the building deputy.

It is recommended that all CoE Faculty and Instructors take the following steps when preparing for classes:

1.      Provide information as part of the course syllabus regarding course policies in the case of a campus closing or suspension of classes:

Instructors should include the following statement in the syllabus of each course that they teach:

"In the event of a major campus emergency, course requirements, deadlines and grading percentages are subject to changes that may be necessitated by a revised semester calendar or other circumstances.  Here are ways to get information about changes in this course." (Describe how your students can get information remotely here.)

2)  Establish, announce, and test a means of contacting students and teaching teams in case of an emergency.

3)  Be prepared to work from home.

Thank you all for your participation, let’s have a safe and productive semester.

Vince
