Hello Everyone!

Siddhartha Akkiraju and Arnav Deshpande have served for nearly two years as graduate students on the ChE Safety Committee and I want to take this opportunity and thank them for all their help and input as committee members; they have been very active and valuable members of our Safety Committee.

The ChE Safety Committee has now two (2) openings for graduate students. We are looking for two enthusiastic, motivated and safety oriented graduate students to join our active Safety Committee. An ideal candidate is someone who still has to complete about 3 years of graduate studies and who performs research in a lab. Typically, graduate students serve as members of the ChE Safety Committee for a period of two years. We would like the new members to join us this summer (June 2022), as trainees, and then with full responsibilities from August 2022.

Some of the Safety Committee members responsibilities are:

• attend the safety committee meetings (once a month) and actively participate in discussions and committee activities
• report unsafe conditions and unsafe practices/acts
• assist in addressing safety issues/concerns
• contribute with ideas and suggestions for improvement of safety in our School
• follow safety procedures and rules and be an example for others for work safely
• help with the safety inspections throughout the year, and with preparations for the ISP Recertification Review with REM
• help investigating safety incidents, if/when necessary
• share safety information with colleagues, etc.
