Colleagues,  In CE 498 Senior Design Class this semester, we have an historically large class of 186 students.  The size of our class matches the grand challenge of their assigned project as you can see in the attached syllabus.  The project is being conducted in collaboration with Kiewit Engineering of Omaha, Nebraska on the rebuild of the Francis Scott Key Bridge (FSK) that tragically was taken down by a 116,000 ton cargo ship last March.  Kiewit has the won the bid to design and build a new bridge.  The project total cost is estimated at 2.1 Billion dollars.  Also attached is a photo showing the first meeting of the class this morning.
