Dear Colleagues,

Building effective professional networks have become increasingly important to accelerate one’s success in their profession whether in academia, industry, or other organizations. Many students and professionals have yet to learn how to go about building their professional networks effectively. To fill this void, the Nanotechnology Student Advisory Council (NSAC), Purdue chapter of Optical Society of America (OSA) and Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE) are organizing a full day workshop series on professional development and Keynote on Nov 30, 2016 featuring talks by Alaina Levine, author of award-winning book: Networking for Nerds.

WORKSHOPS (8am to 4pm at Birck Nanotechnology Center Rm 2001):

8:00 – 9:30am: Breakfast with women in science and engineering, Informal discussion on work-life balance issues, two-body challenges and combating sexual harassment, Open Q and A

10:00 – 11:00am: Leveraging Social Media for Networking and Career Advancement

11:00 – 12:00pm: Professional Etiquette for Science and Engineering Professionals: Perception = Truth

12:00 – 1:00pm: Lunch with postdocs and grad students: Entrepreneurship for Science and Engineering Professionals: Tech Entrepreneurship 101, Open Q and A and discussion- bring your questions!

3:00 – 4:00pm: Innovation, Growth, and Advancement through the Diversity of Ideas
