Abstract: 
Invented in the 1960s shape memory alloys have proven to be a fascinating class of materials that have found significant commercial use. This talk will focus on the basics of how shape memory alloys work, their uses in the commercial sphere, and the future of SMA's at micro and nanoscale. This talk is specifically designed to explain in detail to newcomers to shape memory alloys, how they work and how to design for them.
