BNC Faculty Seminar Series - Presenter: Shriram Ramanathan-TODAY Thurs., 3/5 @ 12noon in BRK 2001
Dear all, A gentle reminder that Shriram Ramanathan<https://shriram-ramanathan.org/?_ga=2.120580936.1380123278.1583157462-1222462354.1553101516>, Professor of Materials Engineering will present this week’s faculty seminar series, TODAY Thursday, 3/5 @ 12pm (lunch provided) in BRK 2001. The first half will be an overview of research and the remainder will be open for questions and high-level discussion of collaboration opportunities that can lead to future center of excellence and/or also brainstorm about a shared vision for Birck. Natural and Artificial Intelligence Abstract: About a decade ago, Toshiyuki Nakagaki et al stunned the scientific world by demonstrating that non-neural organisms can predict periodic events, reminiscent of the Egyptian civilization evolving around the flooding of the river Nile. More recently, studies on Asian monkeys in Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park in Thailand have shown that mastering tool-use can affect maturation of shellfish (prey). Such observations in nature force a fundamental re-think of how to design hardware for sustainable AI. I will discuss some ideas on electronic materials synthesis inspired by evolutionary dynamics and their potential relevance in neuromorphic computing.
