DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:Hello\n\nIt is my great pleasure to announce Pro
 f. Pramey Upadhyaya's talk on February 4\, 2021 from 10AM-11AM in the Semi
nar Series for ECE Faculty and Students. The details are below and attache
 d. Hope to see you there.\n\nThanks\n\nSumeet\n\nZoom Link: https://purdue
 -edu.zoom.us/j/3164232249\n\nTitle: Hybrid Quantum Spintronics\n\nAbstra
ct: Spin degree of freedom has long been the preferred choice in textbooks
for explaining both classical and quantum information\, for example\, enc
oded in bits and qubits. With the promise of lower-dissipation and longer
coherence time offered by the spin\, in the recent years\, a number of fun
damental and technological advances made in the field of spintronics have
brought these textbook examples closer to reality. However\, thus far\, th
e advances in the classical and the quantum domain have largely occurred i
ndependent of each other. In this talk\, we will present a new emerging di
rection of merging these advances to explore new phenomena and devices at
the interface of classical and quantum spintronics—a paradigm we refer t
o as hybrid quantum spintronics. Particularly\, taking the example of inte
grating dynamic excitations of magnets with quantum spins hosted in solid
state platforms\, we will demonstrate how hybrid quantum spintronics open
possibilities for solving the challenge of developing: (a) local and coher
ent control fields for spin-qubit-based quantum applications\, and (b) sen
sitive\, nanoscale\, and non-invasive quantum probes for sensing electric
fields and material properties for next-generation micro/nanoelectronics.\
n\nSpeaker Bio: Pramey Upadhyaya is an Assistant Professor of Electrical a
nd Computer Engineering at the Purdue University. Before joining Purdue\,
Pramey was a postdoctoral scholar in the Physics and Astronomy Department\
, University of California Los Angeles. He earned his bachelor’s degree
in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpu
r\, India\, in 2009\, and the master’s and Ph.D. degree in Electrical En
gineering department from the University of California Los Angeles\, USA\,
in 2011 and 2015\, respectively. His research has explored the theory of
classical and quantum spintronic phenomenon and their device applications\
, enabled by electrical and thermal control of magnetism. Along with his t
eammates\, this work has resulted in one of the earliest demonstrations of
  current-induced room-temperature skyrmion manipulations\, spin torque swi
tching by topological surface states and NV-center probing of spin-calorit
ronics. These works have resulted in over 30 publications in journals incl
 uding Science\, Physical Review Letters\, Nature Nanotechnology\, Nature M
aterials and Nature Communications. He is a recipient of NSF CAREER (2020)
\, Qualcomm Innovation fellowship (2013) and Intel summer fellowship (2011
 ).\n
