Dear Faculty,

The Birck Nanotechnology Center has funds available for early stage research that involves Nanotechnology and has the potential for commercialization.  If you have or are planning on starting a company with research that involves Nanotechnology please let me (mallain@purdue.edu) know by Friday, December 17, 2010.

The BNC will award two $10,000 grants to faculty in January, 2011.    Note, that these grants are in addition to the New Venture Competition shown below the dotted line and we highly recommend that you register for that competition as well.

Please let us know about your early stage research in Nanotechnology and your plans to start a company.  You could receive a grant as early as January 2011!

All interested faculty will be provided a link to provide specific/additional information regarding your research idea and company (plans).  Please don’t hesitate!  Let me know ASAP!

A joint initiative sponsored by Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame

in conjunction with the State of Indiana’s Midwest Institute of Nanoelectronics Discovery (MIND)

Purdue University and the University of Notre Dame are proud partners with the state of Indiana, through the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, in an initiative to promote nanotechnology discoveries and new ventures in Indiana.  One component of this initiative is a Nanotechnology New Ventures Competition (NNVC).

The Nanotechnology New Ventures Competition aims to foster translational research and accelerate the commercialization of intellectual property in the nanotechnology arena within the state of Indiana. In doing so, the competition exemplifies the spirit of discovery-to-delivery by generating entrepreneurship opportunities and driving economic development of nanotechnology research.  Participants compete for cash prizes totaling $57,000.

In conjunction with the Nanotechnology New Ventures Competition, the Future of Nanotechnology Research Fair will be held as a complementary component of the NNVC.  The Research Fair will be an opportunity for all competition registrants to share (pitch) their research to an audience including NNVC judges, potential investors and distinguished guests attending the Nanotechnology New Ventures Competition.

These events will be held on March 25, 2011on the campus of Purdue University in Purdue’s Discovery Park.  The Future of Nanotechnology Research Fair will be held from 10 a.m.– noon in the Birck Nanotechnology Center Atrium.  The Nanotechnology New Ventures Competition will be held from 1 – 4 p.min the Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship (Room 121).  This exciting day celebrating the future of nanotechnology research will conclude with a reception and awards dinner.
