DESCRIPTION;LANGUAGE=en-US:Hello\n\nIt is my great pleasure to host Dr. Shr
iram Raghunathan\, President and CEO\, Noctrix Health\, Inc. for his talk
in the ECE Seminar Series. The details are below and attached. Hope to se
e you in the seminar. Please note a change in the time for this talk.\n\n
 Thanks\n\nSumeet\n\nWhen: April 8\, 2021 (Thursday)\, 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM
  (ET)\n\nWhere: https://purdue-edu.zoom.us/j/3164232249\n\nTitle: “Needs
-based” innovation: The DNA of successful medical device develop\n\nAbst
ract: Billions of dollars have been invested into the healthcare sector by
some of the most innovative companies in the tech world with very limited
success in terms of outcomes. In this talk\, Shriram walks through the cr
ux of why staying laser focused on the “unmet need” differentiates suc
cessful medtech innovation from innovation in the consumer electronics and
tech space. A one-line “Need Statement” can make all the difference b
etween success and failure- with an overview of Stanford University’s Bi
odesign teachings and real-world examples from medical observations to cas
e studies the talk will focus on how this model might have applications to
innovation in other fields as well. The interactive session also aims to
share learnings and observations on a journey from academia into industry
and entrepreneurship.\n\nSpeaker Bio: Shriram Raghunathan is an alumnus
of Purdue’s BME program and graduated with a Ph.D. in Biomedical Enginee
ring in 2010. His doctoral research involved design and implementation of
subthreshold signal processing algorithms on-board implants to develop res
ponsive neurostimulation devices. He has since worked extensively in the m
edical device industry\, designing implantable neurostimulators to treat e
pilepsy\, depression and cardiac conditions for publicly traded companies
and startups alike. Most recently\, he was a fellow at Stanford University
’s Biodesign Fellowship\, a unique program focused on training engineers
and physicians in medical device innovation. Out of Stanford Biodesign\,
he founded Noctrix Health with a mission to develop wearable neurostimulat
ion therapies prescribed as an alternative to pharmaceuticals and currentl
y serves as its President and CEO. Shriram is based out of the San Francis
co Bay Area and spends time outside work woodworking and enjoying the grea
t outdoors that Northern California has to offer.\n\n
