The 8th International breast cancer prevention symposium will be held at Purdue University of October 8 and 9, 2018 (see http://www.purdue.edu/breastcancer for the program). Registration is free for Purdue people and includes snacks and drinks during symposium days and the buffet at the poster session on the evening of October 8  (use code GoBoilers18 when registering with the link registration; please note that to attend the Susan Bulkeley Butler Award seated lunch on October 8 there is a $15 fee; this is separate from the free symposium registration and you have the option to include this award lunch during the registration process). 

To submit an abstract for the poster session (open to all) and for graduate students and postdoctoral scientists to compete for the Catherine Peachey oral presentation and award please see information below. Abstract submission is open until August 20.

Abstract submission is open to all. In addition, graduates & Postdoctoral Students can compete for the Catherine Peachey Oral Presentation Award which comes with a monetary cash award of $500.

Areas of interest include: nutrition, medical care, epigenomics, public policy, advocacy, epidemiology, public health, statistics and bioinformatics, communication & media, social sciences, biomedical research, and other cancer prevention topics

Abstracts are to be submitted by August 20, 2018

The goal of this symposium is to bring together global public health actors, advocates, clinicians and researchers on breast cancer prevention to discuss how engineering research and technology can be developed and applied to better understand when cancer risk reaches a threshold at which the disease emerges. 

The symposium will take us on a journey across disciplines—at the interface of biology, medicine, nutrition, engineering, computational science and statistics, ethics and policies.

Primary prevention of cancer requires understanding how the environment influences the epigenome. New technologies are becoming readily available to gather vast amounts of data, and emerging models such as organs-on-a-chip will enable individualized cancer prevention. By using population data and “omics” data from a diverse group, data science can harness information to develop appropriate prevention interventions worldwide.
