Recap of the BNC Research Review, April 14th, 2008, ON BEHALF OF TIM SANDS
Dear Birck Nanotechnology Center member: If you were not able to attend the BNC Annual Research Review on April 14th, the presentations were recorded and will appear on the nanoHUB. In the meantime, I invite you to peruse a written (html) version of a portion of the overview presentation at: http://www.purdue.edu/dp/Nanotechnology/nanoatpurdue.php This draft report entitled "The Impact of the Investment in Nano at Purdue University: Peer-reviewed Publications as a Metric" represents our attempt to quantify (albeit in one dimension) the impact of the investment in the people, the community and the facilities in nanoscience, nanoengineering and nanotechnology at Purdue. Let me also take this opportunity to recognize Yan Zhao, Waleska Perez-Segarra, and Qicun Shi and Alexander Wei as the first recipients of the Birck Nanotechnology Center Research Citation Award for their paper, "Dithiocarbamate Assembly on Gold," which appeared in the JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY 127 (2005): 7328-29. This citation award is presented to the authors of the journal publication with the most citations in the Web of Science database for the two full calendar years following the year of publication. Publications with the lead author indicating the Birck Nanotechnology Center as an affiliation are eligible. A plaque will be mounted in the BNC. Speaking of plaques, you will also see two new plaques on the wall in the atrium very soon, recognizing the founding co-directors, Dick Schwartz and Jim Cooper for ³Exceptional Guidance and Leadership in the Formation of the Birck Nanotechnology Center.² Lastly, the poster, "Rapid electrokinetic patterning of colloidal particles with optical landscapes," by Stuart Williams, Aloke Kumar, and Steve Wereley received the highest number of votes during the poster session and, thus, an award of $300 (plus a gross-up to cover taxes) will be split equally among the authors of this winning poster.
