The Birck Nanotechnology Center, in conjunction with the other Centers of Discovery Park, is making plans to assemble the scholarly output of the BNC's researchers in a easily accessible and searchable database known as Purdue e-Pubs (http://docs.lib.purdue.edu/), a part of the Purdue Library's e-Scholar site. Each publication is entered in a format that provides maximum access in accordance with the rights of the publisher. We believe this will become a critical part of the BNC’s web presence, and will substantially improve the visibility of your research without adding substantially to your workload.

Please send the following files to Deborah Starewich (dstarewi@purdue.edu) at your earliest convenience, but before January 30th, 2007:

1. pdf files for each of your publications with a publication date prior to January 1st, 2007, and for which at least one of the authors included "Birck Nanotechnology Center" in the author affiliations. 2. pdf files for any publication with a publication date prior to January 1st, 2007 that explicitly acknowledges the BNC, even if none of the authors is a member of the BNC (for example, a publication authored by a visiting researcher who used an instrument in a BNC lab for which you are the person-in-charge, or PIC) 3. Any patents granted, patent applications filed, or invention disclosures submitted prior to January 1st, 2007 that involved the BNC in any way.

If any of the items above include work performed with another Discovery Park Center, please let Deborah know.

By asking for only pdf files of published research, we hope that the workload is minimal for you. The BNC staff will handle data entry and redundant submissions. Please continue to include the BNC in your author affiliation when appropriate, and ask those who use the facilities for which you are PIC to acknowledge the BNC. We have decided not to include publications that do not mention the BNC to maintain the integrity of the database. Besides promoting your research, the scholarly output included in this database will be used by the BNC’s Internal Advisory Committee and the director (me) in our annual evaluations of space utilization in the BNC building. Finally, we plan to ask for these publications each January in concert with similar requests by the schools and departments. If you would like to provide a pdf of each paper as it is published, please do.
