Brick Nanotechnology Center PM Closure Notice = October 18-October 22, 2021 The Birck Nanotechnology Center will be undergoing a semi-annual preventive maintenance and service shutdown October 18 through October 22, 2021. Air handling systems, exhaust systems, toxic gas delivery, and monitoring systems will be down beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, October 18 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 22. The BNC staff will be performing appropriate preventive maintenance on the process equipment at this time as well. All CLEANROOM research work will be suspended until the maintenance activities are completed and all systems are returned to normal. Only authorized personnel will be allowed to enter the cleanroom during this time period. In addition, the laboratory areas will also be affected by this systems maintenance. As such, all LABORATORY activities that involve exhausted hoods, biological safety cabinets, vacuum systems, and/or toxic gas systems will be down beginning 7 a.m. Monday, October 18 through 4 p.m. Friday, October 22. However, work that involves taking standard electrical measurements may be carried out in the LABS provided that fluctuating air temperature and humidity do not affect the readings. No chemical or biological work will be allowed during this period. It is anticipated that the building and process tool maintenance will be completed by the end of the day on Friday, October 22. Downtime Expected?: We expect up to 240 minutes of intermittent connectivity during the window because equipment will need to be powered down and moved in some cases. Thank you, Mike Mike Skvarek Network Engineer IT Infrastructure Services Important Reminder Regarding Lab & Cleanroom Access Some users have been observed to not be swiping into labs and the cleanroom, but rather entering on another user's card-reader swipe. Please note that this is a serious violation of our protocols and policies as we depend on swipe and equipment-use income to offset the expenses of running this great research facility that we all benefit from. If a person enters a lab without swiping this reduces our income and severely affects our ability to provide training, utilities, equipment services, and process work. Additionally, card-reader swiping is a tool we use for COVID contact tracing and is critically important for the health of our community. Not swiping-in is actually considered theft from the university, so please take this as a serious reminder to ALWAYS swipe into any lab or the cleanroom every time you enter.
