All,

Update:

The office and atrium air handlers are currently off in order to conserve heat. This was Phase 1 of our steam emergency plan. No word from Wade yet as to the expected recovery timing, and the pressure remains at zero psi so we are beginning Phase 2 of the contingency plan by shutting off Air Handler 9 (tour aisle), and Air Handler 10 (subfab).

We also have zero psi of clean steam (used for cleanroom humidification). While the cleanroom temperature control is still within spec (for now), we do not have humidity control in any process bays.

Subject: [BNC-all] Loss of Steam
Importance: High

All,

Purdue has lost all boilers at the Wade power plant. At this time they aren’t sure of the cause, nor do they know when it will be back up and running. Given the current weather, once we have pulled all the heat from the hot water systems we will no longer be able to maintain temperature control in the building. I am going to be monitoring the situation, and will shortly begin our load shedding plan in order to keep the research labs and cleanroom at temperature as long as possible. However, at this time I believe it is likely that we will lose control in the research areas as well.

I’ll send additional updates as they are available.
