ANNOUNCEMENTS

PURDUE RECYCLES

There have been a few questions about the new recycling program that Purdue University has implemented in Birck.

Mary Jo Totten adds the following notes for clarification:

Purdue recycling program considers the following:

RECYCLABLE:  Office paper is neutral color, non-glossy, and unbound (paper clips and staples are OK).

RECYCLABLE:  Mixed recyclables are books/notebooks, cans, cardboard, glossy/bright colored paper, junk mail, magazines, newspapers/ads/inserts, pamphlets/ brochures, plastic.

TRASH:  is facial tissues, food waste, liquids, restroom paper, snack wrappers, etc.

The new blue container in BNC offices are for RECYCLABLE materials only and has two openings.  The larger opening is for mixed recyclables, and the smaller opening is for office paper.

If you have trash, you must take it to a trash can.  There is a trash can located in every conference room.  Physical Facilities has also placed a trash can in any office area that has more than five occupants (graduate student offices and suites).

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Jo Totten.

Carol Handwerker adds:  “. . . Purdue saves with this program!  Mixed recycling is hauled away at NO cost to Purdue (as opposed to trash for which Purdue pays $35–45/ton for disposal) and recyclers actually pay Purdue for the white/office paper waste.  For more details you should check with physical facilities.”

Thank you for your participation in this campus wide recycling effort.

NCN's Electronics from the Bottom Up

NCN’s Electronics from the Bottom Up - an innovative educational initiative cosponsored by Intel, NCN, and Purdue University – introduces students to new ways of thinking about electronic devices. New concepts and
approaches, emerging from current research on nanoscience, are applied to non-equilibrium problems like
nanoscale transistors, energy conversion devices and bio-sensors. The 2010 Summer School will feature
lectures and hands on exercises by Prof. Supriyo Datta on the topic: “Nanoelectronic Devices, with an introduction to spintronics.” Additional tutorials on selected topics will be presented by faculty from Purdue University and from the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR) in Bangalore, India.
