Hello Birck Community, Join the Department of Physics & Astronomy on Thursday, February 26th at 3:30p.m. in PHYS 112 for a General Colloquium featuring Professor Vladimir Shalaev, Bob and Anne Burnett Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering. Quantum Photonics and Space-Time Metamaterials In this talk we first discuss quantum photonic integrated circuitry (qPIC) based on the recently discovered single-photon emitters in silicon nitride and the avalanche-enhanced optical modulation in silicon at single-photon intensities. Then, we show that transparent conducting oxides (TCOs) operating in the near-zero index (NZI) regime can provide strong single-light-cycle modulation, enabling novel optical phenomena in such extreme time-varying media, including photonic time crystals and 4D space-time metamaterials. This is the last weekend to complete this training! If you've not received your BNC 151 2026 - Safety Refresher Training badge by 11:59:59 PM Monday, February 16th, your lab/cleanroom access will be revoked. See below. Greetings all, It's that time of year again! In order to maintain access to Birck, all BNC Cleanroom and Laboratory users including Faculty, Staff, Scientists, Researchers, and Students must obtain this year's annual safety training refresher badge. If you've received the BNC 111 Orientation & Safety training after Dec. 1st, 2025, you are exempt for this requirement until next year. BNC users must obtain this badge by 11:59:59 PM Monday, February 16th, or BNC cleanroom and lab access will be revoked. We will continue to use Brightspace for this training, so it should be familiar if you've taken Birck training in the last year. To begin earning the badge, navigate to the following link and click the "Add to Cart" button: http://www.training.purdue.edu/BNC151 1. NOTE: It kind of looks like this will have a cost associated with it when registering. There is no cost and it will just be a 0$ transaction when completing the registration. 2. Proceed to checkout. 3. Log in with your Purdue credentials. 4. Complete the checkout process. 5. Login with your Purdue ID and BoilerKey (if not already logged in) 7. Click on the 'content' button to begin completing the coursework. To reiterate the requirements listed on the badge page, obtaining the badge requires: 1. This will take some time (especially the CHP) so make sure you plan to dedicate a few hours to this. 2. Passing a 25-question quiz on content from the training materials from step 1. An 80% or better is required to pass. The quiz may be retaken once, if needed. You may refer to the training materials during the quiz. Please note: * If you fail to obtain an 80% after a second attempt on the quiz, your submission must be manually reset.
